FUNDRAISER FOR LION ROBERT "BOB" WALLER

held at the Earle Baum Center, 4537 Occidental Road, S.R.

was a success.

A fundraiser to raise needed funds to help cover part of Lion Bob Waller's medical bills was put together for a fellow Lion member diagnosed with Terminal Cancer last June. Lions Bob & Karen has lived and been an active force in helping in community from 1980's to 2009.

Lion Bob fulfilled his time in Vietman, when he was discharged from the Army, he settled in Santa Rosa, California. Lions Bob & Karen live in Rohnert Park and have been active in helping the community through the Lions club for many years, first as Lioness now as Lions.

When Lion Bob was surprised with his diagnosis of "Terminal Cancer" he had to start Chemo right away. He found that he couldn't run his business as by this time, he was in a lot of pain and had to close his doors. Everyone knows how that goes, you close your doors, you have no income but the bills are faithful and they don't stop coming in.

Lion Bob is keeping a positive attitute and fighting to beat this cancer. Chemo leaves him weak and tired these days. Lion Karen has had to take time off being a Lion and from her Scaffolding business to stay home to care for Lion Bob as he became weak very fast with his regular Chemo sessions. They are both keeping a very positive attitude and has some good days and some bad days.

His club, the Santa Rosa Roseland Lions, with the help of Lion Wes Boardman and his club The Santa Rosa Host Lions, all worked together to put a fundraiser on for Lion Bob within a month. Together we were able to raise $3,000.00 to help with a small part of his medical bills.

All clubs were contacted via e-mail, telephone and visitations. Region, Lion Buck Larson and Zone, Lion Gary Lazzarini, Lions Adolf, Jean & Harold Jensen and Pat Sterck doing visitations helped spread the word.

The fundraiser was born and the event lead by S.R. Roseland Lions Club President Lion Bonnie Baclawski, chair with Lion Pat Sterck as Co-Chair. Assisted by Lion Wes and his S.R. Host Lions Club taking care of the BBQ Tri-Tip Dinner with surrounding clubs attending, fantastic weather ordered for October 17th was delivered in a timely manner making it a beautiful day for all to enjoy the outdoors at Earle Baum Center.

The day started with a Pan Cake Breakfast from 8 to 11am, put together one week before the event by past club treasurer & member, Lion Carla, good friend of the club and Lions Bob & Karen Waller. Assisting her were her son Al and friend Susan.

Rummage sale ran from 8am to the end of the event 5pm, this was put together and run by Lion Bonnie Baclawski with help from her sister Cheryl.

S.R.Roseland Lions Club did all the Set up & Take down for the event starting from 7am to 5pm. A BIG "THANK YOU" to Lions Adolf Kopf 2nd. VP, Club & District 4c2 Photographer, Bonnie Baclawski, Charter Member & Club President 2009/10, Volunteer Cheryl Baclawski, Lion Bonnie's sister, Harold Jensen, Club Charter President, current Club Membership Chair & District 4c2 White Cane Chair, Robert Krebs, 2nd. VP and No Host Bar Chair and Pat Sterck, Charter 1st. VP, Past President, current 1 yr. Director and District 4c2 Raffle & Silent Auction Chair.

S.R. Host Lions Club donated the Tri-Tip Steaks they purchased from Cattlemen's who were kind enough to cook the Tri-Tip for the event. Trimmings for the Dinner were Baked Beans with Thanks to Cloverdale Lions, Sour Dough Rolls from Montgomery Village Lions, Utencils from Windsor Lion and from S.R. Roseland Lion members came the home made assorted Salads, Mac-a-roni, 2 kinds of paste, Waldorf, Slaw & a Huge Potato Salad from Lion members Chris Nolen, Jean Jensen, Bonnie Baclawski, Judy Kopf and Robert Krebs.

Food was plentiful, Lions in attendance were over 80, weather was perfect, Lions from some of our surrounding clubs attended to help raise funds, event ran smoothly Lion Bob arrived in his wheel chair with his wife Lion Karen and was able to stay from 2:30 to 5pm, what more could anyone ask for?

A check for $3,000.00 was delivered by Lion Robert Krebs, 2nd. V.P. to Lions Bob and Karen Waller. They send their heart felt "thanks" to all for help and support in this, their time of need.

Keep your donations coming, as donations are still coming in and very much needed.

If every club and/or member in our district were to send in a donation big or small, it will add up very fast to help two people who have helped our Community and Country who now needs our help, lets be there for them.

Any tax-deductible donation you would like to send in to help this cause, would be a huge help to 2 wonderful Lions in our community. Please send your tax-deductible donation by check made out to Roseland Lions/Lion Bob fund and mail to

Roseland Lions Club: PO Box 7398, Santa Rosa, CA 95407.
